Legends of Lakshmi Pooja on Deepavali Amavasya
1. Return of King Ram to Ayodhya
This is the day King Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and defeating the demon king Ravana who kidnapped Sita, the wife of Rama. People of Ayodhya were happy and ecstatic about the homecoming of King Rama. They welcomed King Rama by lighting a cluster of diyas (Lamps) on his way and celebrated his comeback by distributing sweets.
2. Return of Pandavas to Hastinapur
The Pandavas, who captured and made Hastinapur as their capital after Kurukshetra war, were forced into exile for thirteen years as they lost the dice game to Shakuni. On this day they returned to Hastinapur after their exile. The people of Hastinapur, welcomed Pandavas lighting a cluster of earthen diyas (Lamps).
